HP Mini 1000 Series (1 Day)

Posted in Computers, Internet, Netbooks, Technology by reeddouglas on the April 12, 2009

So, yesterday I bought an HP Mini 1000 series notebook netbook.  I have had some time to play around with everything, get used to the stuff, and install my essential internet software. ( and then some).

Specs:  Intel Atom N270 1.6GHz x2.  1 GB of ram (soon to be bumped to two).  60GB HDD (No,I didn’t go with the solid stated because I didn’t feal like limiting the usage.  And, also, I want to dual boot it with HP MIE).  10.1 ” screen.

Pros:  I like the keyboard… alot.  I have no problem typing on it what so ever, and I usually do complain about keyboaords.  I have an HP DV9000 and, while that one does have a numeric pad, the space between the Q and the P is nearly the same, about a quarter of an inch different.  The GPU, the Intel 950 is actually decently powerful (which surprised me) for this type of computer.  It can run some basic games, like warcraft and starcraf with everything on full, and you can get away with internet game no problem.  Overall, it surfs the internet at break neck speeds, when you install firefox of course.  Mine does not have Bluetooth (something I feel is completely useless in computers) or a 3G card slot. (something I wish i had, kinda, but then again, leaves more room for change(3.5-4G)).

Cons:  The single core Intel Atom performs at about half that of the Intel Celeron.  Mine has the new Dual Core Atom, and I have had little problems.  I mean, what do you expect from a 2W processor, right.  I have had very fiew incedences where I run into bottle neck(though when I do, I think it is mainly the Hard Drive.)  But I will say this, IT DOES PERFORM BETTER THAN I EXPECTED IT TO.

I will write updates like this one at a one week mark, two week, three, and month, hopefully.

Maybe I was harsh with Asus

They just really are pissing me off. I get a new M3A78-T motherboard for my computer. It works good for a little while, and then it goes out. I send it to asus, they send it back and changed nothing. It took them three weeks to get this far. Then, I call them, they decide to have me send it back to them again. The first time shipping cost me thirty bucks. They want me to pay the shipping costs again, so I complain.

They email me a prepaid label, all works well, and its been there again for the last week and hasn’t even register on their website as having been received by them.
